TA Training Workshop

When:                January 23, 2010
                     Saturday morning, 9:00 to 12:00
                     2142 / 2152 WSC

What to            -The writing assignment instructions for a paper you will grade
     Bring:        -The grading criteria for that paper
                    -A real, sample student paper responding to that assignment
                    -Pen and paper
                    -Class Rubric

For:               Teaching assistants or graders with responsibility for teaching and evaluating writing. The course is designed to help TAs working with any department on campus.
                       
                     Professors or TA supervisors are welcome to attend with their TAs, at no charge. Indicate plans to do this when registering.
 
What:            Learn strategies for office hours, responding to and evaluating papers, and managing time well.

Why:             Even this brief training can lead to much more effective teaching. Read comments about the workshop from past attendees experiences.
 
How:             To register your TA, email the registration information to Karen at writing@byu.edu     
                
Funding:       The fee provides each TA with a textbook, breakfast, snacks, and other workshop materials.
Fees:   Register before Dec 17: $8 fee
           Register before Jan 14: $14 fee

General Education can sometimes fund the participation fee. To request this funding, you need to complete the“TA Training Funds Application Form” and submit it to General Education. This form is available at http://ge.byu.edu/faculty_departments/Faculty_Funding/funding_tatraining.aspx
 
Deadline:      Please let us know of your interest as soon as possible. The workshop will accomodate 130 participants. We will not be reserving spots for departments any more. Registration will close once 130 particpants have registered or the firm deadline of Jan 14, 2010 has arrived. 
Registering earlier is highly recommended.  Fees will be assessed for late registrations.
